December 2014

Ray is in Baltimore, staying with his parents, on their couch. His Mom had a long bout of the flu and was in the hospital for quite a while. We were supposed to be up there attending their 70th anniversary but that didn't work out. So I flew back and Ray stayed. He will be back on the 28th, I hope. Ray getting his Stephens Ministry confirmation. Doesn't he look handsome??? Love my Buttercup! I am so proud of him! . I had a wonderful trip to Alaska to see our niece Tess graduate from the University of Alaska's Nursing program! 10 hours to fly from Orlando to Anchorage. Met at the gate by Tricia, Tess and Jordan. So good to see them! Tess has lost a little weight and looks beautiful! They picked me up in a van with a ramp and brought me to the Westmark motel in downtown Anchorage. Very nice. Paul and Albert Dekker were there from Holland (Tess's biological father and grandfather) so we were able to transport every one around in the van. At the motel Tricia stocked our rooms with coolers filled with snax and beverages. (no refrigerators) The graduation ceremony was lovely and we all enjoyed watching Tess get her 4 year pin. The next day Tricia took us on a tour to Alyeska Ski resort where we went on a tram ride up the side of Alyeska mountain. Beautiful views and loads of skiers, snow boarders and one guy in a wheelchair with a monoski. Tricia has been driving a tour bus for the cruise lines so she had all sorts of narrative info about the history of the area! Kenai Peninsula, Cook Inlet and gold mining among other stuff. We also spotted some Dahl sheep on the mountainside! Had to make a U-turn so we could take pictures! Didn't get to see any of those on out last trip in "08". Lots of snow capped mountains and snow covered trees! I was hoping for a little snow storm but I didn't get one, nor did I get to see the Northern Lights, dang, next time. Sunrise was at about 10:30 and sunset was at 3:30. We went to see a play that Alicia was in after we visited Tricia's house. Lots of stairs to be carried up but all went well. Alicia did a great job as narrator and looked very cute in her costume and patent leather heels! She's growing up so fast! Another composition of Alicia May in her Christmas play "The Little Town of Christmas" Paul,Alicia and Tess's Jordan returning from Alyeska. Gotta love those Red Shoes! Nice pic collage from Tricia on Tess's Pinning night. Dinner at Sullivans Steak House after graduation!
