Camping on the Tomoka

Last week we went on what we thought was an impromptu one-night camping trip to a campground near by. Tomoka State Park. Who knew it would turn out to be 4 days during spring break! Anyway we haven't been camping since Dolly passed away and were not sure how Gator would behave. Turns out he enjoyed kicking back and doing nothing. Go figure! So when the park ranger came around and told us we could keep this nice accessible camping spot with it's own private walkway to the accessible rest room we decided to extend some. $11 a nite wasn't too hard to handle either. Lots of families with kids and teenagers but they calmed down by 10pm.
We spent a LOT of time just sitting around staring at the campfire. However Gator did get an opportunity to tree a Racoon that was sneaking up on our leftovers. I'm glad it ran because I don't think Gator would have known what to do if he actually caught it. : )
We wandered around a little historical museum on site and enjoyed the kayakers rowing on the Tomoka River (they rent them there). We even saw a HUGE woodpecker in a tree that must have been over 14" long and sounded like a real hatchett thunking at the tree.

Looks like a good time! Can't go wrong with a perfect spot for $11.
