First and foremost Ray's parents passed over into heaven on Feb. 28th and March 4th. The family was so devastated. They were 87 and 89 and had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Ann has been a diabetic for years and her kidneys finally gave out. Orem's dementia tripled during her sickness and he willed himself to die 4 days after Ann's passing. Ray took care of them in their one bedroom apartment for 3 months. He slept on the couch and did all the cooking, cleaning and healthcare with the help of Hospice and other family members. It was a very traumatic time for him and he lost weight along with his father who refused to eat.
I went up for the service on the 8th of March. Since they lived on the second floor there was no reason for me to go up any sooner. I'd have just been in the way. :(
We will miss their visits and our trips to Ocean City. They were great in-laws, always with a smile.
They are in a better place but we will miss them.
I had a meeting with the Florida Independent Living Counsil immediately after my return from Baltimore.
We stomped the House and Senate to support our platforms for people with disabilities. So, since we were out of town we missed Bike Week this year. Just as well as we were not in a celebratory mood.
